Languages
Intent
At Compass Point, we celebrate our diverse community, where many languages are spoken and all cultures are embraced.
We believe all children should have equal access to rich and varied experiences, including learning Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). Our aim is to inspire a genuine interest and curiosity in learning French, helping pupils enjoy language learning while developing an understanding of other cultures and their own identity.
Using the Language Angels scheme, we provide a broad and engaging French curriculum that promotes high expectations and supports pupils to reach their full potential, preparing them to continue language learning beyond Key Stage 2. The four key skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—are taught in age-appropriate ways to build strong foundations for future learning, where all pupils have opportunities to develop key French vocabulary and conversational phrases. These languages reflect those taught in local secondary schools and help pupils become confident, respectful, and life-long language learners.
Children in Early Years and KS1
We celebrate the many languages our children already know by encouraging our children to greet people in different languages. We enjoy singing songs and playing games in different languages. Our aim is to open our children’s minds to different languages and give them the confidence to have a go. Merci et au revoir!
